The Pembroke Soccer Club's Newsletter

Welcome to the first issue of

"The Center Line"

The Pembroke Soccer Club's Bi-Yearly Newsletter.

We at The Pembroke Soccer Club would like to open our new newsletter by thanking all of those who coached and played soccer with us this past outdoor soccer season.  We hope you had a great playing experience with our club, throughout the summer and those who played in our "King Sports" tournament.

We are very pleased with the return of the King Sports tournament which took place on the 15th and 16th of August of this year. During this tournament our under 10 boys, under 11 boys, and under 18 boys age groups winning their respective divisions; also our under 10 boys and under 16 boys age groups coming in second place. A job well done to them.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on September 22, 2009 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, more on that on the inside of this newsletter.

Stay tuned for our "Spring Edition" to be published early in 2010!

Our 2009 "House League"

This year's House League went very well. We would like to take the time to thank the referees, coaches, and parents who attended to support the kids efforts in making this a great season. We would also like to take the time and thank our sponsors for supporting the Club and the Kids!

We conducted our AGM (Annual General Meeting) on October 22, 2009. With no one from the general community attending. At the AGM we had discussed our past "outdoor" season, the upcoming Christmas parade, Valley League Soccer, and Girls team Soccer.

The dates for outdoor registration will be in our spring newsletter, so stay tuned!

For 2010 outdoor soccer we will be looking into forming Girls Only teams for our regular house league as well as our competitive teams. With that, we are also thinking about forming a team to compete in the Ottawa Valley League. More to follow in spring on these issues.

Our King Sports Tournament went well this year, after having a year not being played. Pembroke Soccer Club submitted 5 teams consisting of 2 Under 10 boys teams, 1 Under 11 boys team, 1 Under 16 boys team, and 1 Under 18 boys team. Other teams from Ontario also played, they came from Northumberland, Arnprior, Deep River, Kemptville, Golbourn, Petawawa, and West Carlton. 1 team from the Ottawa Valley League also played.

The Pembroke teams all played well, with 3 teams taking 1st place, and 2 taking second place.

We are hoping for a bigger and better tournament for 2010!

2009/2010 Indoor Soccer a Possibility

Futsal is a sport in its own right which does not compete with soccer but serves to enrich it. It is widely viewed as the ideal skill building environment for producing technically excellent soccer players. There are proven benefits to playing Futsal for the technical skill development of young players, with particular emphasis on the skills of passing, dribbling and close control.

If you are interested in playing Futsal (Indoor) soccer this year please let us know. We are currently looking for players and parent volunteers. We need the volunteers to help with the organizing and coaching our indoor teams.

Futsal is the official FIFA and UEFA version of indoor 5 a side soccer and indeed the only internationally recognized small sided game by every confederation.

Futsal is soccer in its purest form. It embodies what Pele referred to as "the beautiful game" Pace, skill, teamwork and high drama characterize this popular indoor game.

For more information on the game of futsal visit the Ontario Soccer Association at the address below:
